Human rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has congratulated Md Asaduzzaman on his appointment as minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs in the newly elected government.
In a statement, ASK said Asaduzzaman previously served as its secretary general and as a member of its executive committee, and has long been recognised as an active human rights advocate.
He is also a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and a former attorney general, the statement added.
According to the organisation, Asaduzzaman has worked for more than three decades to protect human rights, uphold the rule of law and ensure access to justice.
He has conducted a significant number of landmark public interest litigation cases aimed at safeguarding citizens’ constitutional rights.
ASK expressed confidence that his professional integrity, legal expertise, experience and commitment to humanitarian values would help strengthen the country’s legal and judicial system.
The organisation said it expects the new law minister to play an effective role in promoting human rights, justice and the rule of law, and to make access to justice easier for ordinary citizens.
It also voiced hope that his leadership would contribute positively to upholding democracy and constitutional values in Bangladesh.
