A Dhaka court yesterday rejected the bail pleas of BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and the party’s media cell convener Jahir Uddin Swapan in a case lodged over murder of constable Amirul Islam Parvez during the clash between BNP men and law enforcers on Oc-tober 28 last.
As the defence pleaded for bail and the state opposed it, Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of the First Addi-tional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka passed the order and sent them to jail after a short hearing.
Earlier on November 3, the court granted the six-day remand application of the accused. After remand on November 9, the court ordered to send them to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) police arrested Khasru and Swapan from Gulshan on November 2.
Paltan Police Station sub-inspector Masuk Miah on October 29 filed the case against 164 people, making BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam as the prime accused.
During BNP’s grand rally on October 28, BNP leaders and workers encountered with police at several places in the city including Naya Paltan, Shantinagar, Kakrail, Fakirapool and Dainik Bangla intersec-tions.
Over 41 police personnel were injured during the clash, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s media cell.
Constable Amirul was found lying over the street near Fakirapool Box Culvert road. Soon he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the duty doctors declared him dead.
