BERC adjusts LPG price upward for February

Staff Reporter:
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the prices of Liquefied Petrole-um Gas (LPG) by Taka 1.60 per kg and auto gas by Taka 0.47 per liter for the month of February.
Now the price of per kg LPG will be Taka 123.16, up from Taka 121.56 of the last month and per litre auto gas will be Taka 67.74, up from Taka 67.27 of the last month, BERC official said.
As per the new rate, a 12kg LPG cylinder will be sold at Taka 1,478, up by Taka 19.20 from Taka 1,458.72 of the last month, he said.
According to the BERC, the new prices have been made effective from 6:00 pm yesterday across the country.
The BERC official said this adjustment follows a rational scale across various LPG cylinder sizes, ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg, addressing the need for a proportional price revision across different consumer segments.
According to the BERC statement, the decision to adjust LPG prices upward came in the wake of hiking costs in the international market, specifically tied to the increase in the Saudi CP (contract price), which serves as a benchmark for local operators importing LPG primarily from the Middle East.
The BERC said the Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP) price of per metric ton of LPG at $635.00 and $625.00 and Propane and Butane ratio 35:65 for the month of February announced by the Saudi Aramco.
It added that the BERC adjusted LPG price at retail level with VAT. The Saudi CP price was fixed $628.50 per metric ton considering the Propane and Butane ratio 35:65.
