Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Md Abdur Rouf passed away yesterday while undergoing treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in the capital.
He was 91.
The former Appellate Division judge breathed his last around 9:55am.
He had been suffering from lung complications, heart disease, kidney ailments, and age-related illnesses for a long time.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held yesterday after Asr prayers at Gausul Azam Mosque in Moha-khali.
The second janaza will be held after Zohr prayers today at the National Eidgah ground on the Su-preme Court premises while the third janaza after Maghrib prayers at Dapunia High School ground in Mymensingh Sadar, followed by his burial at the family graveyard beside his mother.
Justice Rouf left behind two sons, a daughter, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
He served as the country’s fifth chief election commissioner from late 1990 to early 1995. He was also chairman of Barakah Foundation.
