The Bangladesh Health Reporters Forum (BHRF), an organisation of journalists covering the country’s health sector, on Friday got a new body for the 2025–2027 term, with senior journalist Pratik Ejaj and Senior Correspondent of Ekattor Television Md Mozahidul Islam Shuvo elected as president and general secretary, respectively.
In the newly elected committee, Mohammad Ainal Hossain of CitizenNews24 and Mohammad Al Amin of the Daily Sun were elected as vice-presidents.
The newly elected committee was formed through direct voting by the members after a biennial general meeting of the organization held at the Rainy Roof Restaurant in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
The other office-bearers include Mahmud Kamal of Machranga Television as joint secretary, Azadul Islam Adnan of Amar Desh as treasurer, Tabibur Rahman of Samakal as organising secretary, Tanvirul Islam of Dhaka Post as office secretary, and Mahmudul Hasan of Kalbela as publicity and publication secretary.
The elected executive members are Shamimuzzaman Chowdhury of Mohona Television, Buddhadeb Kundu of Independent Television, Tawsia Tajmim of The Business Standard–TBS, and Nesar Uddin Ahammed.
Earlier, a biennial general meeting was held presided over by outgoing president Rashed Rabbi, where the organization’s annual report was presented by former general secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel and former finance secretary Md Bayezidi Munshi.
After detailed discussions on the report, the election was held under the supervision of a three-member election commission chaired by senior journalist Abul Khair, with senior journalist and senior member of the organization Moniruzzaman Ujjal and Kabir Ahmed Khan serving as members.
After the election, the newly elected leaders expressed gratitude to the members of the organisation, saying that the main goal of the new committee would be to further strengthen responsible and investigative journalism on complexities, policy challenges, and public-interest issues in the country’s health sector.
Expressing hope to play a more organized, stronger, and influential role in health-sector journalism, the newly elected leaders also pledged to protect members’ professional rights, enhance skills, and make the organization more effective and active to improve the standard of health journalism.
