Tarique receives travel pass to return to Bangladesh

Staff Reporter:

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has received a travel pass to return to Bangladesh.

He applied for the document at the Bangladesh High Commission in London on Thursday (18 Dec), aiming to return to the country on 25 December, party insiders said.

Tarique received the travel pass on Friday morning.

Sources said Tarique, who has been living in exile in London for political reasons, was unable to obtain a Bangladeshi passport after his previous one expired.

Although there was an opportunity to apply for passport renewal following the fall of the Awami League government during last year’s uprising, he did not submit an application at that time.

Given the current circumstances, sources noted that he is required to travel to Bangladesh using a travel pass in order to return as a Bangladeshi national.
