Staff Reporter:
Law enforcers are analysing CCTV footage to identify and book the attackers of Chhayanaut building, said Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki on Friday.
The building, located in Dhanmondi, has suffered extensive damages in the overnight attack, for which the government is ready to provide financial support, the adviser told reporters after visiting the site around 2:30pm.
The attack was undoubtedly an attempt to derail the upcoming elections, and divert focus away from the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi, he noted.
Chhayanaut and other sites across the capital came under attack from unidentified assailants on Friday night as street protests raged against the killing of Hadi.
The government would extend the necessary monetary support for restarting the cultural facility following repair works, he said.
Chhayanaut authorities have been informed about the support, and they would give a response after discussing the matter at an internal meeting, he said.
Farooki said he is arranging the maximum security support for Chhayanaut building and has already discussed the measures with other advisers.
