Travelling in 3 Bandarban upazilas discouraged

Staff Reporter:

The Bandarban district administration has discouraged tourists from travelling to three upazilas in the district.

Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Shah Mojahid Uddin told the media on Saturday that due to joint forces operation, tourists are being discouraged from travelling to the Rowangchari, Ruma and Thanchi areas of the district.

Meanwhile, an instruction issued for tourist guides, transport and hotel-motel owners association from the Ruma Upazila administration stated that any kind of tourist travel to the tourist areas of Ruma Upazila is discouraged during the operation of the joint forces.

Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Mamun said, “This is a temporary step due to operations of the joint forces in the area.”

“When the situation normalises, the tourists will be able to travel as before,” he added.

Mentionable, the joint forces have started drives in Bandarban following bank robberies, abductions and attacks on police station by the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) from April 2 to April 4.
