BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday said they will focus on rebuilding Bangladesh and reforming the structures of the country as the prime task if the party assumes power through the people’s mandate.
“If the BNP gets the opportunity to govern the country with the people’s support, its main task will be rebuilding the motherland and repairing the state,” he said while virtually addressing the Jashore district BNP conference in the afternoon.
The inaugural session of the conference began in the morning at the Central Eidgah of the district town.
“At present, rebuilding and strengthening the party is our main job along with reaching its 31-point charter of reforms to villages,” Tarique said.
The BNP leader said the first and foremost task of the interim government is to hold a fair election. “We hope they will accomplish it as soon as possible.”
He said though false cases were filed against the party’s 60 lakh activists and leaders, the BNP along with other pro-democracy parties continued waging the movement ignoring the oppression of the immediate past autocratic regime.
“Many activists and leaders of the BNP were martyred. The party believed firmly that the dictatorship would fall.”
Referring to the criticism against BNP leaders and activists from various quarters, Tarique said the party does not follow the policy which goes against the countrymen.
“However, some people in the party may be doing things that are not morally acceptable. We have taken action against them. And, the BNP is the only party which takes action against such people.”
