Govt files case against wrongdoing, not against media: Anisul

Staff Reporter:

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday said the present government files cases against wrongdoings, not against any media or journalists.
“It’s a process, so that journalists are not harassed unnecessarily. We have adopted one such process,” he said.
The minister told these to newsmen while replying a question on recent uproar over the arrest of daily Prothom Alo reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).
“There is no scope of saying something or thinking about DSA afresh marking an incident of three days ago. This act was misused or abused a little, and we have acknowledged it and we are discussing the mat-ter with the Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for making some changes in it,” the law minister said.
Anisul also said a technical note was sent from there and the government is examining and scrutinizing that, adding, “If necessary, changes will be made, but it is clear that Digital Security Act is essential.”
The minister earlier addressed as chief guest a seminar “Revisiting Arbitration Act for Promoting FDI in Bangladesh” organized by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in the capital.
