Newly appointed Army Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Princi-pal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) Lt Gen Mizanur Rahman Shamim yester-day paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the Bangabhaban.
During the meeting, the President was apprised of various activities of the Bangladesh Army, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin said after the call on.
The new CGS and the PSO sought the directives and guidelines from the President, Supreme Command-er of the AFD, to discharge their duties.
Welcoming the new CGS and PSO, the President hoped that their talent, labour and skills would con-tribute positively to the development of the armed forces.
In addition to protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, the cooperation of the army in civil administration’s activities will increase for the welfare of the country and its people, the head of state hoped.
President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam and Secretary (attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present.
