Manikganj: Ferry movement on the Aricha-Kazirhat route resumed yesterdayafter disruption of 5.40 hours due to dense fog.
“Dense fog blanketed the Aricha-Kazirhat river routes on the Jamuna River, forcing us to suspend the ferry movement at 3 am yesterday,” Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Paturia Ghat Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz said.
During the period, two ferries– Begum Sufia Kamal and Beer Shreshtha Ruhul Amin– were anchored at Aricha Ghat with vehicles and passengers.
The ferry movement started at 8.40 am when the fog disappeared, the DGM added.
Meanwhile, the ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia route was also suspended around 4.35 am to 7.45 am due to dense fog.
Three ferries were stranded at Paturia Ghat, seven at Daulatdia Ghat and five ferries were remaining in the midstream of the Padma River in Paturia-Daulatdia route with vehicles and passengers during the period.
