Officials at the National Security Intelligence (NSI) and customs seized more than 34kg of gold at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet and detained four passengers for interrogation in this regard.
Identities of the passengers, who returned from Dubai this morning, could not be known immediately.
A customs official said the gold consignment was seized from a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG248) that landed at the airport from Dubai on Friday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, NSI and customs officials raided the aircraft and found 280 bars and six egg-shaped pieces of gold kept hidden under four seats and in the toilet, sources at the airport said.
