BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas yesterday started testifying for himself in a case filed against him for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information.
Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 adjourned the hearing till November 15 as the testimony remained incomplete at the end Sunday’’s hearing. Earlier in the day, two other defence wit-nesses, Shahjahan Miah and Qazi Shifaur Rahman Himel, testified in the case.
The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Ab-bas’s bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him.
The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Taka 57.26 lakh. ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case, filed charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 4.23 crore.
The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
