Faridpur: One more case was filed on Tuesday against Rajshahi district BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand for making a “death threat” to Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina.
Faridpur chapter AL President Shamim Hoque filed the case under the defamation and Digital Security Act (DSA) at Faridpur Chief Judicial Magistrate’s 1 No Amali court Judge Tarun Bachhar, said Abul Khayer, an inspector of the court.
Taking the allegations into cognizance, the court asked Kotwali police station to record it as a first in-formation report (FIR).
According to the case statement, there is a fear of losing the life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina due to direct threat by the BNP leader at a recent rally in Rajshahi.
Moreover, the defamation happened as the news was published in several media. An amount of Tk 20 crore was sought in the case as compensation.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Chand threatened the prime minister at a public rally of metropolitan and district BNP at Shibpur High School ground in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi as part of the central pro-gram.
“No more 27- or 10-point demand, just one point now – send Sheikh Hasina to the grave! We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign,” he said.
Meanwhile, a video of the threat went viral on social media, triggering a storm of protests among Awami League leaders and supporters.
Several cases have so far been lodged against the BNP leader in parts of the country.
