Traffic to remain off for 3 days on Sherpur Bridge

Sylhet: Vehicular movement on the Sherpur Bridge along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway will remain sus-pended for three days from Friday due to emergency repair work.
According to a notice signed by Mohammad Minhajur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj, the restriction will be effective from 8:00am on April 24 to 8:00am on April 26.
The notice stated that repair work on the damaged deck slab of Sherpur Bridge, located at the 186th kil-ometre of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway over the Kushiyara River, will be carried out during this period.
As per the schedule, vehicles will be allowed to move on a single lane from 8:00am to 11:00pm on April 24.
The bridge will remain completely closed to all types of vehicles from 11:00pm on April 24 to 9:00am on April 25. Limited vehicular movement will resume on one lane from 9:00am on April 25 until 8:00am on April 26.
The bridge will be reopened for normal traffic after completion of the repair work at 8:00am on April 26.
During the closure, the district administration urged commuters to use alternative routes.
Vehicles travelling on the Shayestaganj–Sherpur–Sylhet route have been advised to use the Shayesta-ganj–Mirpur (Bahubal)–Sreemangal–Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet road.
Similarly, vehicles on the Sherpur (Moulvibazar)–Sylhet route should use the Moulvibazar–Fenchuganj–Sylhet road, while those on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Sunamganj route have been asked to take the Nabiganj’s Syedpur Bazar–Raniganj–Jagannathpur–Sunamganj road.
