Testimony ends against PSC driver Abed Ali’s son

Staff Reporter:

Testimony in the corruption case filed against Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, son of retired Public Service Commission (PSC) driver Syed Abed Ali Jibon, over allegations of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income concluded on Sunday.

Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir recorded the testimony of the prosecution witness, ACC Deputy Assistant Director and case complainant Zakir Hossain.

Later, Siam’s lawyer Rezaul Karim cross-examined the witness, and the court set 24 September for Siam’s statement in self-defence, said Ariful Islam, bench assistant of the court.
Meanwhile, Siam’s lawyer sought bail for him, which ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi opposed. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail plea.

According to the case documents, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain filed the case against Siam on 5 January 2025, accusing him of acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income. The case alleged that Siam acquired illegal assets worth Tk37.30 lakh between 3 September 2021 and 30 June 2024.

The charge sheet said the investigation found information about moveable and immovable assets worth Tk31.81 lakh that were inconsistent with his known sources of income. The trial of the case began on 17 June after the charge-sheet was submitted on 30 December.
