Sirajganj: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit yesterday said that on November 7, 1975, sepoys and people united in resistance against the deprivation of freedom of expression, establishment of BAKSAL and misrule marked by famine in the aftermath of the 1971 Liberation War.
“Ordinary people and patriotic members of the armed forces took to the streets together to protect the country’s sovereignty from domestic and foreign aggression and hegemonic forces, freed Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the country,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a display programme and football match marking the National Revolution and Solidarity Day at the Shahzadpur Government Model Pilot High School ground here this morning, said a press release.
Earlier, he joined a special rally with children and adolescents with disabilities to observe Cerebral Palsy Day.
Addressing the younger generation and students, Dr Muhit said the country was pushed into an extreme crisis in 1975 through the banning of all political parties, the establishment of one-party rule, repression by the Rakkhi Bahini and famine.
He said people faced a similar situation during the fascist regime preceding 2024.
Just as the younger generation rose up to liberate the country in 2024, soldiers and people had also built resistance together in 1975, the state minister added.
He further said the armed forces, young generation and ordinary people must uphold the spirit of unity and solidarity of November 7 to ensure that no aggressive or hegemonic force could ever again deprive people of their voting rights and freedom of expression.
Calling upon the youth to contribute to nation-building, Dr Muhit said the younger generation must take the lead in building a happy, prosperous and sovereign Bangladesh in the future, embracing Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s declared motto, “Korbo Kaj, Gorbo Desh, Sobar Agee Bangladesh”.
He also urged young people to develop themselves through regular sports and social activities alongside their academic studies.
Officials of the local administration, teachers and students of schools and colleges, children and adolescents with special needs and their family members, and local political leaders attended the programme.
