Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman yesterday alleged that associates of the “fallen autocrat” are still attempting to destabilize the country.
In a statement issued yesterday he urged the people to remain united to foil any conspiracy.
Jamaat Ameer said the nation must confront all plots and conspiracies in a united manner and continue its “just movement and struggle” until a peaceful, humane and value-based Bangladesh is established.
Referring to the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on February 12, Rahman said the polls were conducted in a “fascism-free environment,” marking the beginning of the country’s renewed journey towards democracy after more than fifteen years of oppression and repression.
“At this juncture, the citizens of the country expect the restoration of their fundamental human rights along with all legitimate rights,” he said, adding that efforts are still underway by the cohorts of the fall-en autocratic regime to create instability.
Calling upon the people to uphold the sanctity of the holy month of Ramadan, the Jamaat Ameer said Ramadan brings blessings, forgiveness and salvation. He noted that the last ten days of the month include the sacred night of Laylatul Qadr, which is regarded as better than a thousand months.
“Ramadan is a month of attaining taqwa, practising tolerance and showing compassion towards one an-other,” he said.
Jamaat Chief urged the new government to give special attention to maintaining overall law and order, controlling the rising prices of essential commodities and improving the living standards of ordinary people during Ramadan.
He alleged that dishonest businessmen aligned with “fascist forces” remain active at different levels of society and called upon the government to take strict and effective measures to prevent any abnormal price hike of essential goods and iftar items.
The Jamaat Ameer also called for breaking all kinds of business syndicates and establishing a fair, trans-parent and well-planned market system so that low-income and poor people can observe fasting in com-fort.
