Army-led joint forces arrest 171 crime suspects

The Bangladesh Army-led joint forces arrested 171 suspected criminals in separate drives across the country between 1 and 8 January.

Various infantry divisions and independent brigades of the Bangladesh Army, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, conducted joint operations countrywide, including in the capital, read a release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Thursday.

During the operations, a total of 171 crime suspects, including terrorists, drug dealers, drug addicts, robbers, juvenile gang members, and smugglers, were arrested, it said.

Additionally, 20 illegal firearms, 149 rounds of various types of ammunition, 10 crude bombs, contraband drugs, and sharp weapons were seized from their possession.

The arrestees were handed over to the police stations concerned for necessary interrogation and legal proceedings, the ISPR said.

The Bangladesh Army is conducting regular patrols and security operations in regions to ensure public safety across the country.

Meanwhile, it also urged the people to inform the nearest army camp of any suspicious or unusual activity, the ISPR added.
