Staff Reporter:
A mild to moderate cold wave may continue to persist in several districts, including those in the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
In its weather forecast issued for the next 24 hours from 9am on Thursday, the Met office said all districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions, along with Gopalganj, Moulvibazar, Cumilla, Feni, Khulna, Jashore, Chuadanga and Kushtia, are currently experiencing a mild to moderate cold wave.
The forecast said the weather across the country may remain mainly dry with temporarily partly cloudy skies.
From midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may form at places over river basins, while light to moderate fog is likely elsewhere across the country.
BMD sources said night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, while day temperatures could rise slightly across the country. On Thursday morning, the relative humidity in Dhaka was recorded at 88%.
Regarding the synoptic situation, the Met office said a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and is now positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal.
The system may move further west-northwestwards and cross the Sri Lanka coast, with its extended part stretching up to the northern Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, a portion of the sub-continental high-pressure belt lies over West Bengal and the western part of Bangladesh.
On Wednesday, the country’s highest temperature was recorded at 27°C in Teknaf, while the lowest temperature today was 7°C in Srimangal.
