Nor’wester lashes Dhaka, parts of Bangladesh

A Correspondent:

Dhaka and several other regions in Bangladesh experienced nor’wester with a dust storm on Thursday after days of intense heat, providing some much-needed relief to the residents of the capital, as well as other areas such as Satkhira, Mymensingh and Gazipur.

The sky in the capital turned cloudy around 4pm, and as the day progressed, the clouds grew denser. The nor’wester started with a dust storm followed by heavy rain.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department also predicted temporary squalls or gusty winds with rain or thunderstorms in two places of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions within the next 24 hours.

There is also a possibility of occasional hailstorms in some areas, with partly cloudy skies and predominantly dry weather in other regions.

The highest temperature recorded in the country over the past 24 hours was 38.1°C in Cox’s Bazar, while other areas experienced temperatures ranging from 34°C-37.5°C.

A mild heat wave is currently sweeping across Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna and several other districts, which may continue for some time.
