Dengue deaths hit 2nd high 8 in 24 hrs

Eight people died of dengue in the past 24 hours until Monday morning across the country, the second-highest single-day death toll from the mosquito-borne disease this year, while 1,733 new cases were reported, the highest daily tally so far this year.
The latest fatalities have brought the number of dengue deaths in the country to 157 this year, while the new cases raised the total number of infections to 53,570, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new deaths, three each were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation and Chattogram division while one each was recorded in Mymensingh and Dhaka North City Corporation.
Of the total deaths recorded this year, 63.6 percent were men and 36.4 percent were women.
Earlier on September 8, Bangladesh recorded its highest number of dengue deaths in a single day this year, with nine people succumbing to the mosquito-borne disease.
The previous highest daily tally of dengue cases was recorded on the same day, with 1,571 patients being hospitalised across the country.
Meanwhile, 49,375 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, according to the DGHS.
