Advocate Syed Haider Ali, Chief Prosecutor at the Anti-Corruption Tribunal, refuted the claims made by Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s lawyer Abdullah Al Mamun regarding difficulties in obtaining documents related to Dr. Yunus’s case.
Haider Ali said that there is no harassment involved in the document collection process.
Speaking to journalists in front of the High Court building yesterday afternoon, Haider Ali said, “Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been sentenced for a criminal offense. He will appeal according to the country’s laws, with the opportunity to do so. From what I have seen, heard and understood from various sources, he is not getting enough time to appeal and is being harassed.”
“But I do not see any irregularities here. To file an appeal, necessary documents must be collected. If there are any obstacles, they should communicate. However, no such incidents have occurred here. They have the certified copy of case documents. The appeal will be filed within the given time, excluding the time spent obtaining the copy. Thus, there’s no distress, and the statement is unfounded,” he said.
Haider Ali also assured that legal procedures are being followed and emphasised the flexibility of the law to address concerns.
“There is no need for alarm or confusion. The law allows for flexibility, and if more time is needed, it can be requested. The assertion of distress is baseless,” he concluded.
