BNP’s black flag processions on January 26, 27

Staff Reporter:

The BNP on Sunday announced a two-day black-flag-procession program for January 26 and 27 demanding the cancellation of the 12th parliament and protesting the growing price hikes in essen-tial commodities.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the program at a press confer-ence at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
He said the program will be held on January 26 in all district headquarters and January 27 in all metropolitan cities.
This is the BNP’s first street program after the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7.
“We’ll take out processions holding black flags to protest against the ridled increase in commodity prices, alongside our demand for the release of all political prisoners, including our leaders Begum Khaleda Zia, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, withdrawal of all false cases and the annulment of the illegal parliament,” Rizvi said.
He slammed the Awami League government for what he said its failure to control the hike in pric-es of essential commodities.
“The Awami-dummy government, formed through a farce in the name of staged election of seat sharing, has defeated Bangladesh by suppressing the BNP. There is now no one to take care of people,” he said.
Stating that a famine-like situation has been prevailing in the country, the BNP leader alleged that the common people are going through serious difficulties amid the extreme rise in commodity prices due to the foul play by the Awami- business syndicate.
BNP Chairperson Advisory Council member Zainul Abdin Farooque, central leaders Abdus Salam Azad, Asadul Karim Shahin, Mir Newaz Ali, Tariqul Islam Tenzin and Aminul Islam were, among others, present at the press conference.
