Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said that during the tenure of BNP-led four-party alliance government from 2001 to 2006, the people of the country as well as the whole world witnessed killings, lootings, disappearances and rise of militancy.
“Now we do not see murders and disappearances very often. We saw murder-disappearances extensively from 2001 to 2006. We have also seen rise of militancy and fanaticism at that time,” he told the journal-ist at his office at Bangladesh secretariat here.
The home minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and most of the senior leaders of Awami League were targeted to kill by grenade attack on August 21 in 2004 but Almighty Allah saved her. The people also witnessed series bomb attacks in 63 districts by militant outfits and fanatics at that time.
He said, “Maybe many people have forgotten about those murders, lootings, arson attacks and disappear-ances. I want to request them to remind those again, they (BNP) initiated murders and disappearances in the country.
We have already closed the chapter and established a beautiful environment of development yesterday.”
The government allowed the BNP and some other political parties to hold rallies, meetings and road marches throughout the country during last two years, the home minister said but what they did on Oc-tober 28 last? They killed a police man, attacked on innocent Awami League workers, attacked the offi-cial residence of the Chief Justice, destroyed the name plate of the house, he said adding that they also attacked the residential complex of the High Court Judges and burnt alive an innocent bus helper.
He said that the big violators of human rights are now raising questions of human rights.
