A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Md Kabir, a close aide of shooter Faisal Karim Masud, on a seven-day remand in connection with a case filed over the attempted murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order after Detective Branch Inspector Faisal Ahmed, the investigating officer of the case, sought a 10-day remand.
During the hearing, state prosecutor Kaiyum Hossain Nayon argued in favour of the remand, while no lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused.
According to the remand petition, Kabir is a close associate of the prime accused Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan. Information gathered during the investigation suggests Kabir assisted Faisal in going into hiding before and after the incident, helped in executing the plan, and maintained communication with him.
Earlier on Monday, members of the Rapid Action Battalion arrested Kabir from the Fatullah area of Narayanganj.
Meanwhile, three other accused linked to Faisal ̵ his wife Saheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, and friend Maria Akter Lima ̵ are currently on a five-day remand in the same case.
On Sunday, Inqilab Moncho member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station, accusing the suspects of attempting to kill Sharif Osman Hadi by shooting him.
Hadi was shot and critically injured on Friday on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station.
Police said that CCTV footage from the surrounding area showed that while Sharif Osman Hadi and an associate were travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on him with intent to kill.
Following analysis of the footage, police identified Faisal Karim Masud as the shooter and Alamgir Sheikh as the motorcycle rider.
