A Dhaka court on Tuesday sent Khadija Yesmin, daughter of top-listed criminal Subrata Bain, to jail in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Md Arif Sikdar.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order after police produced Khadija before the court and sought a seven-day remand.
However, the court deferred the remand hearing and fixed Thursday for the matter due to the absence of the main case documents.
According to the remand plea, top terrorist Subrata Bain, also known as Fateh Ali, along with his daughter Khadija, allegedly attempted to establish dominance in the Mogbazar and Hatirjheel areas and considered Arif a rival. In this context, Arif was allegedly killed following direct instigation and planning by Subrata Bain and Khadija.
Case documents state that Jubo Dal leader Md Arif Sikdar was shot in front of Jhil Café under Hatirjheel Police Station on the night of 19 April. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on 21 April.
Following the shooting, Arif’s sister, Rima Akter, filed an attempted murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station against 10 people, including Subrata Bain’s associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu. After Arif’s death, the case was later converted into a murder case.
Earlier on Monday, Khadija was detained from the Jailkhana intersection area in Cumilla and subsequently handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch.
