About Tk 15.54 crore was collected from the Padma Bridge as toll in five days of Eid holiday. During the period, 1,54,286 vehicles including motorcycles crossed the bridge.
According to Bangladesh Bridge Authority website sources, 93 thousand 579 vehicles crossed the bridge from Mawa end and 60 thousand 689 vehicles crossed from Jazira end.
Meanwhile, due to the chaos, the motorcycle crossing was closed on the day after the opening of traffic on the Padma Bridge.
After nine and a half months, on the orders of the Prime Minister, from April 20, the movement of motorcycles started conditionally on the bridge again. From the first day, there was a daily flow of motorcycles on the bridge.
Additional Director of Bridges Division Amirul Haider Chowdhury said that 47,709 motorcycles crossed from Mawa and 29 thousand 820 crossed from Jazira end. Total Tk 77.53 lakh was collected in the first six days as Tk 100 for motorcycle crossing.
Meanwhile, there were no accidents in the large number of motorcycles crossing. However, due to disorder, 57 motorcyclists were fined Tk 1.71 lakh.
Munshiganj Traffic Police Inspector (TI) Bazlur Rahman said that those who are crossing the bridge out of necessity are obeying the rules. But those who come unnecessarily to roam are breaking the rules. 60 drivers were fined for the Eid journey on the bridge. Of them 57 were motorcyclists.
