Hasnat calls for national unity against fascism

Staff Reporter:

Hasnat Abdullah, organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP) in the southern region, has called for forging a national unity against fascism amid the growing demand for a ban on Awami League as a political party.

“From now on, all our programmes will be observed under the banner of the national unity against fascism until the demand is met,” Hasnat said in a message on his verified Facebook page on Saturday.

The NCP leader made the call when people from all political parties, except the BNP, as well as religious-based organisations and socio-cultural platforms, have been mounting pressure on the government by staging demonstration at Shahbagh intersection for the past two consecutive days, demanding a ban on Awami League.

The people from all strata, including students, have been able to oust the fascist Awami League government through a violent mass upsurge, but the government has so far failed to ban the fascist Awami League, he said.

An attempt is being hatched in various ways to foil the movement waged for the last two days, with a demand for a ban on Awami League, he said, adding that the movement serves no interests of any political party.

He called upon all students from across the country, including the capital, Dhaka, to gather under the banner of national unity against fascism to achieve the shared and common goal of the movement.

“We, the people, irrespective of political affiliation and views, will collectively continue the movement until the Awami League is banned,” he expressed his vows.
