After downward adjustment of diesel and kerosene prices, the government committee responsible for fixing bus fares has recommended cutting the fare by 3 paisa per kilometer.
The committee headed by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder made the recommendations at a meeting held at BRTA headquarters in the capital yesterday.
As per the recommendations, the fare of intercity buses will be Tk 2.12 per km instead of Tk 2.15 per km.
The fare of city buses will be Tk 2.42 per km instead of Tk 2.45 per km.
The BRTA chairman said the committee will now send the recommendations to the Road Transport and Highways Division and if approved, the division will issue circular for implementation of the new fare.
On March 31, the prices of diesel and kerosene were cut by Tk 2.25 per liter to Tk 106 from the previ-ous rate of Tk 108.25.
However, the prices of octane and petrol remained unchanged.
