Chattogram: The Election Commission has appointed 23 judicial magistrates in Chattogram district as like the rest of the country for quick trial of various crimes on the 12th national elections.
The judicial magistrates will remain on duty for a total of five days from January 5 to 9, a notification signed by Assistant Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Md. Al-Amin said yesterday.
It is said that 653 judicial magistrates will be on duty in the 12th National elections for five days includ-ing the day of polling on January 7 and the previous two days and after two days of the election.
According to the People’s Representation Order, magistrates will be able to take into cognigence of elec-toral offenses such as snatching of ballot papers, destruction of ballot papers, looting of ballot boxes, obstruction of voting, making polling station environment unfit for voting – these crimes can be tried summarily.
