Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman has said that the upcoming 12th national parliamentary polls will be held as per the schedule. It will not depend on the participation of any particular party.
He said: “The election will take place at the scheduled time. The election will be held even if no party comes to participate. The election commission is working toward the goal. However, there is scope for rescheduling if any specific political party decides to join.”
The election commissioner said these things in a meeting with Sylhet and Sunamganj returning officers, assistant returning officers, and law and order forces in the Sylhet district administration conference room on the occasion of upcoming elections on Thursday.
Election Commissioner Anisur Rahman said: “According to the information in the media, 70% of the parties are participating in the elections. If it is 70%, though the Election Commission has not analyzed the percentage. If 70% of the party participates, there is no chance of any influence in the election.”
On rumours of the Jatiya Party’s demands to postpone the poll’s schedule, he said: “Jatiya Party has not approached us officially yet. If they come to EC in a proper manner with a logical reason, we will discuss it.”
Anisur said: “The record reveals that 100% of political parties have never participated in any election. When most of the political parties join, we can witness an environment conducive to polls. We have 44 registered political parties. We want them all to participate in the election. The nomination paper submission deadline is November 30. We call everyone to participate in the election.”
