Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Thursday said they would announce the general election schedule very soon as they have an obligation to hold the polls in stipulated time.
He made the announcement while talking to the media after a meeting with President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.
A delegation from the Election Commission led by the CEC called on the president this noon to discuss the polls schedule.
Election commissioners, EC secretary and Bangabhaban secretaries were present at the meeting.
CEC Awal said, “We have apprised the president of the preparation of the Election Commission for the upcoming polls and the president is satisfied with our preparations.”
He said the president hoped that the next parliamentary election would be free and fair. “He [the president] will provide all kinds of support to the commission for holding free and fair polls.”
