Tight security at Puja mandaps stressed

Staff Reporter:

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat yesterday called for installing CCTV cameras at every Puja mandap and deploying adequate security personnel to ensure peaceful celebrations of the upcoming Durga Puja.
He also stressed the need for advance precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the religious festival.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Committee at the Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner’s conference room as the chief guest at Mymensingh city, said an official press release here.
Millat said adequate police and Ansar personnel should be deployed at Puja mandaps, while assistance from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) could be sought if necessary.
“Anyone attempting to create disturbances during Durga Puja will be identified and brought under strict legal action,” he told journalists after the meeting.
He said necessary security arrangements, including the installation of CCTV cameras at Puja mandaps, had already been initiated to ensure a peaceful and festive atmosphere.
The minister said political leaders and members of parliament would extend their cooperation to the local administration in maintaining law and order during the celebrations.
Addressing the meeting, Millat said the District Law and Order Committee should not confine its activities to reviewing security matters but should also regularly monitor the progress of development projects.
He stressed the importance of ensuring implementation of decisions taken at the meetings and demonstrating visible progress before subsequent meetings.
The minister called for stronger coordination among elected representatives, government officials and the public to accelerate development and improve public services.
Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman chaired the meeting.
Mymensingh-5 lawmaker Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Mymensingh-8 lawmaker Lutfullahel Majed and Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukdar attended the meeting.
