Asaduzzaman for global burden-sharing to address humanitarian challenges

Staff Reporter :

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has urged the international community to move beyond abstract commitments and build genuine global burden-sharing to address escalating humanitarian, legal and technological challenges

“The world is exhausted by unfulfilled political rhetoric. Grand declarations will not house the displaced, restrain unchecked digital monopolies, or heal the scratches of tyranny,” he said while addressing the inaugural function of The International Justice Summit-Istanbul 2026.

Being held at Ciragan Palace in Istanbul, Turkiye, the two-day summit is being organized by Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Turkiye, an official release said yesterday.

The law minister added that the time for abstract aspirations is over, stressing that world leaders must turn promises into concrete legal actions.

Addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis, the Law Minister underscored that Bangladesh has sheltered more than 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya fleeing persecutions in Myanmar.

While expressing gratitude for Turkiye’s solidarity, including First Lady Emine Erdogan’s visit to Cox’s Bazar, Asaduzzaman stressed that Bangladesh cannot carry this global responsibility alone.

He called for global intervention to resolve the crisis at its root in Myanmar, ensuring dignity, citizenship and long-term peace for the Rohingya people.

Turning to technological threats, the Law Minister emphasized that unregulated transnational tech platforms pose severe cross-border risks to social stability and communal harmony through disinformation, hate speech, cybercrimes, and algorithmic bias.

Turkiye Minister of Justice Akin Gurlek, Syrian Minister of Justice Mazhar al-Wais and Judge at the European Court of Human Rights Prof Dr Saadet Yuksel addressed the function, among others.

Law and Justice Minister, Judges, legal professionals from 75 countries are taking part in the summit, which is scheduled to conclude on October 9.
