In preparation for the upcoming 12th Parliamentary Elections and to encourage the participation of young voters, the total number of voters has increased by 5,40,193.
Election Commission Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmed Khan confirmed the information on Thursday.
Earlier in March 2023, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal announced that the total number of updated voters in the country stood at 110,915,1440.
Subsequently, the election commission allowed young individuals to register until 14 September this year. This led to an addition of 540,193 new voters to the country’s list.
Presently, there are a total of 119,691,633 voters in the country. Among them, the number of male voters is 67,157,579 and female is 58,919,202. Additionally, there are 852 transgender voters.
On Thursday, the district election authorities finalised the list of 300 seats for the upcoming national election. Voting will be held according to the list, the election commission said.
In the 11th National Election, there were 104,238,677 voters. This signifies an increase of 15,452,956 voters in the country over the span of five years.
