Narayanganj: Sohel Bhuiya, who was set to return to Dubai on February 5, was among the four fatalities in a tragic road accident in Sylhet that also claimed the lives of his family members.
Sohel’s paternal aunt, Asma Begum, said, “He had returned to the country from Dubai three days ago for a brief visit and was scheduled to return on February 5.”
In the early hours of the morning, Sohel, 33, son of Sultan Uddin from Bhulta in Rupganj upazila, was traveling to Sylhet with his family.
Four members of a family including Sohel were killed and three others were injured when a truck rammed into a private car on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Unishmile in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district yesterday.
Sohel’s wife, Sabina Yasmin, is in critical condition at Sylhet Medical College and Hospital.
The other deceased include Saima Akter Ety, Sohel’s sister-in-law; Shamima Yeasmin, Ety’s sister; and Ayan, Ety’s son.
“The accident occurred around 7:30 am when the Sylhet-bound truck hit the private car carrying seven people, leaving two people killed on the spot and five others injured,” officer-in-charge of Osmaninagar Police Station said.
Two of the injured died on the way to Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
All of them met the tragic accident while heading towards Sylhet Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine from Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila in their private car.
Police said the accident might have occurred due to poor visibility caused by the dense fog.
A pall of gloom descended in the area following the death of four members of the family.
Police could not arrest the truck driver as he managed to flee the scene.
