Chuadanga: Bus services on five inter-district routes in Chuadanga remained suspended following allega-tions of rude behavior and obstruction by easy-bike (battery-powered auto-rickshaw) drivers toward transport workers, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
Bus services on five routes connecting Chuadanga with Meherpur, Jhenaidah, Kushtia and other destina-tions have been halted since morning, leaving passengers unable to reach their destinations on time.
People travelling for urgent work have been particularly affected.
Nargis Begum, a middle-aged passenger waiting at Chowrasta intersection in Chuadanga district town, said she had been suffering since morning due to the suspension.
“I am not sure whether I will be able to reach my destination on time. Alternative transport operators are also demanding higher fares,” she said.
Another male passenger said he was facing difficulties after the bus services were suddenly suspended while he was heading out for urgent work.
The problem should be resolved quickly and bus services restored, he said.
Haji Abul Kalam Azad, president of the Chuadanga District Bus-Minibus Owners Association, said easy-bike drivers had been behaving aggressively toward bus drivers and helpers and had threatened to van-dalise buses.
“Bus services on five routes have been suspended because of this,” he said.
However, discussions were underway to resolve the issue and a new decision might be taken after the talks.
“Bus services will remain suspended until a satisfactory solution is reached,” he added.
