Homes vandalized, looted in Magura over old enmity

A Correspondent:

Magura: Several houses were vandalized and looted in Magura’s Sreepur upazila early Saturday in an alleged retaliatory attack linked to a previous murder case.
The incident took place in Nabagram village under Goyeshpur union.
Victims alleged that a group of people, led by the sons of late Akbar Mondal and their associates, carried out the attack during Fajr prayers.
The attackers allegedly vandalised and looted around 15 to 20 houses.
The victims claimed that furniture, gold ornaments and other household belongings were either looted or damaged.
Local residents said the violence was linked to the killing of Akbar Mondal of Mashalia village on May 18 while he was working in a jute field.
They alleged that supporters of Alauddin Member had beaten Akbar to death. As Alauddin Member and several others accused in the murder case had been away from their homes after the case was filed, the rival group allegedly took the opportunity to attack their houses.
Ali Mia, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, said police rushed to the scene after receiv-ing the information and brought the situation under control.
A case has been filed with Sreepur Police Station in connection with the incident.
