A Dhaka court on Friday placed dismissed DGFI director Afzal Naser on a three-day remand in an attempted murder case filed with Kotwali Police Station in the capital, linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ripon Hossain passed the order following a seven-day remand petition filed by investigation officer KM Abdul Huq, State Prosecutor Samsuddoha Sumon said.
Earlier on 5 May, Afzal Naser was placed on three-day remand in the same case.
Following his arrest on 30 March from the Mirpur DOHS area in Dhaka, Afzal has been taken on remand several times in different cases.
According to the case documents, on 16 July 2024, students of Jagannath University brought out a procession as part of the anti-discrimination student movement.
When they reached Court House Street, activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations allegedly attacked them using locally made weapons and firearms.
During the attack, Jagannath University student Anik Kumar Das was shot and seriously injured. He filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on 21 November 2024.
