Prime Minister’s Defense Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam yesterday said nuclear secu-rity is not merely a technical issue; rather it is directly linked to national security, international commit-ments and state responsibility.
He made the remarks while delivering a special lecture at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) at Mirpur Cantonment here, an ISPR press release said.
Addressing teachers and students of the Nuclear Security and Engineering Department of MIST on “Nu-clear Security: National Responsibility Under International Commitment and Its Implications on Nation-al Security”, he described nuclear security as a strategic component of the national security.
The adviser said security of nuclear installations has now become a global concern in the context of ter-rorism, cyber threats and technological risks.
Bangladesh remains committed to maintaining international standards and security culture in the peaceful use of nuclear technology, he noted.
The defence adviser said Bangladesh Army is playing an important role in ensuring security of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant through professionalism and coordinated security measures.
After the lecture, he answered various questions from teachers and students and later visited different technology-based projects, including robotics and drones, developed by MIST students, the ISPR added.
