IGP urges Eid holiday travellers to safeguard valuables before leaving Dhaka

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Wednesday advised Dhaka residents to safeguard their valuables before departing for their home districts to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

At a press conference held a the Sayedabad bus terminal, AI-Mamun urged people to take valuables like cash, jewellery and other expensive items with them or entrust them to relatives before leaving the capital.

The IGP warned that many areas of Dhaka could become susceptible to theft as many residents head out for the holidays.

Additionally, he cautioned travellers not to accept food from strangers or fellow passengers.

Addressing concerns about recent market fires, the IGP stated that investigations are underway to determine if any sabotage is involved, with strict action to be taken against those responsible.

He also mentioned ongoing discussions with market committees in Dhaka and other districts to coordinate security operations and safeguard residents.
