The High Court (HC) has asked the authorities concerned to take the necessary steps to submit wealth statements by government employees and submit a progress report in this regard in three months.
A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order yesterday after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed and moved by Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi Das.
The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to reply as to why it shall not pass an order to submit wealth statements by government employees and why digital records shall not be kept in this re-gard properly.
“Corruption and money laundering are obstacles to development and good governance. We cannot let corruption and anti-corruption movements run concurrently,” the petitioner said, quoting the court’s ob-servation.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state in the hearing, while advocate AKM Fazlul Hoque argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
