It is the responsibility of the candidates to encourage people to go to their respective polling centres, removing their reluctance to the election, Election Commissioner (EC) Begum Rashida Sultana has said.
She made the remark while speaking to reporters after a meeting with candidates from five parliamentary constituencies in Pabna, held at the district administration auditorium on Friday.
“The candidates bear the responsibility of bringing people to the polling centers, while the Election Commission is accountable for ensuring the exercise of voting rights,” she said.
She sounded a note of caution, saying that the administration will take stricter measures if anyone attempts to manipulate the election or incite acts of terrorism centering the election.
Claiming that the commission is working tirelessly to hold the 12th parliamentary in a free and fair manner, she warned that legal action will also be taken against those who will threaten media men and steal or damage election materials.
