Savar: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam yesterday said the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway will ensure faster and uninterrupted connectivity between the capital and the country’s northwestern region while reducing traffic congestion.
He made the remarks at the inauguration of two service bridges, measuring 3.71 kilometers in to-tal, constructed under the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway Project.
The bridges were opened to vehicular traffic yesterday to ease pressure on Dhaka’s transport sys-tem and improve movement in the Daur-Ashulia area.
The minister formally opened the bridges at a ceremony on Daur Bridge.
Bridges Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf presided over the event.
Rabiul said 65 to 70 percent of the elevated expressway project has already been completed, with progress over the past six months exceeding targets.
He said utility relocation, a major challenge, was completed through coordinated efforts.
He said the government aims to complete another major portion by next December and bring the main project close to completion within a year.
The minister stressed ensuring proper and efficient use of public funds and praised the construc-tion firm for maintaining quality while meeting deadlines.
He also highlighted China’s role in Bangladesh’s infrastructure development through technology and investment.
The two new service bridges will remain toll-free permanently. One will carry traffic from Daur to-wards Ashulia and the other from Ashulia towards Daur.
