Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin yesterday said the Election Commission (EC) aims to present a beautiful, acceptable and transparent election to the nation and sought cooperation of all to this end.
He made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with election experts at the conference room of the Election Commission Secretariat, Agargaon, in the capital.
A total of 10 election experts, who were former election officials, participated in the dialogue.
The CEC said new challenges are appearing before them every day ahead of the election.
“On one hand, we have to face challenges. On the other hand, we have to go to the elections in a special situation, under a special type of government,” he said, adding that holding of the polls has been taken as the last chance of his life. “I want to do something for the country.”
The CEC said presenting a beautiful, acceptable and transparent election to the nation is not possible for the Commission alone so the cooperation of all is required.
“It will require the cooperation of people from all walks of life, the media and politicians. We want to move forward with everyone. It is not possible for the EC alone,” he added.
Addressing the election experts and former EC officials, Nasir Uddin said, “You have worked hands-on. You are real experts. Many will say that the attendance is low. This has been done consciously. And I have talked to civil society. They speak in meetings and seminars. Tell us where are the gaps, where the elections are rigged, so that we can take actions.”
He sought suggestions from the experts to prevent manipulation in polls.
Four election commissioners and senior officials of the EC secretariat participated in the dialogue with CEC Nasir Uddin in the chair.
Earlier, on Monday, the EC held a dialogue with editors and senior journalists of major print and elec-tronic media of the country.
Senior journalists participated in the dialogue urged the EC to restore the trust of voters and ensure transparent and participatory elections.
They said a beautiful, fair and festive election must be organised by avoiding controversy and without political influence.
Earlier, on September 28, the EC started a dialogue with the stakeholders ahead of the national elections.
