BNP leader Dr Shahadat Hossain took oath yesterday as the new mayor of the Chattogram City Corpora-tion (CCC).
Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperative Adviser A.F. Hassan Ariff adminis-tered the oath at the ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Local Government Division Secretary Nazrul Islam presided over the swearing-in ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, Hassan Ariff congratulated the new mayor of the CCC and wished his suc-cess as mayor in the post-revolution Bangladesh.
“I hope that he (Dr. Shahadat Hossain) will play a role in building a discrimination-free Bangladesh up-holding the lesson of self-sacrifice of the students. We want to see a green Chattogram. I want to see flood-free Chattogram. The city-dwellers also have the same expectations for a clean city,” he said.
The adviser wanted to see in Mayor Shahadat Hossain the determination of building a strong discrimina-tion-free Bangladesh to fulfill the expectations of the student-people leaving behind all the ideas and thoughts of the past.
After taking oath, new CCC Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain said, “Our expectation is to build a discrimina-tion-free Bangladesh. …If the infrastructure of the port city can be developed, Bangladesh will move forward.”
He sought cooperation of all to implement his election manifesto for building Chattogram as a green city, clean city and healthy city.
“I will try my best to implement the election manifesto,” he said.
Shahadat Hossain, the candidate of BNP, was declared by the Election Tribunal and Joint District Judge, 1st Court Chattogram, as the elected mayor of CCC.
BNP national standing committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, BNP chairperson’s advisor Golam Akbar Khandkar and Chattogram divisional organizing secretary of BNP Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, among others, were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
