Awami League’s former lawmaker from reserved women’s seat and Bangladesh Mohila Awami League’s former general secretary (GS) Pinu Khan passed away while undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical College Hospital early yesterday. She was 71.
She left behind two sons, relatives and a host of well-wishers and admirers.
Pinu Khan will be laid to rest at Banani graveyard following a namaz-e-janaza after Zuhr prayers today.
Born on February 2, 1952 in Dhaka, Pinu Khan was a valiant freedom fighter. Her husband late Shamsul Alam Babu was also a valiant freedom fighter as well as one of organizers of the libera-tion war. Martyred intellectual Dr Bahauddin Ahmed was her father in-law.
Being engaged in politics from student life, Pinu Khan was elected joint general secretary of Bang-ladesh Mohila Awami League in 2003 and general secretary in 2009.
As a nominee of Bangladesh Awami League, she was elected lawmaker from reserved women’s seat in the 9th and 10th Jatiya Sangsad.
Pinu Khan, a noted dancer, served as the principal of Bangladesh Bulbul Lalitakala Academy for long. Besides, she was engaged with different social and cultural organizations.
