9 jailed for casting fake votes in Brahmanbaria

Brahmanbaria: A mobile court in Brahmanbaria yesterday sentenced nine people to different jail terms for casting fake votes in two parliamentary constituencies.
They were sentenced to prison terms ranging from seven days to two years. A juvenile was also arrested.
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said nine people were jailed for different periods in two constituencies of Brahmanbaria on charges of casting fake votes till 1pm. One person has been arrested as a minor.
The jail sentences were given after drives were conducted in different centres of Brahmanbaria-2 and 3 constituencies on Sunday.
The names of four of the nine convicts have been known so far. They are Shafikul Islam Ananta (18), Md Yusuf (18) , Azizul Bhuiyan, Sabbir Ahmed.
They were detained from Annada Government High School polling centre in Brahmanbaria-3 (Sadar and Bijoynagar) constituency on Sunday afternoon.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jalal Uddin sentenced them to two years’ imprisonment by conduct-ing a mobile court.
It was reported that a judicial magistrate in Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) constituency has sen-tenced a man to seven days in jail for casting fake votes at Khariyala Government Primary School poll-ing centre in Ashuganj’s Durgapur union.
An under aged voter was arrested while casting fake votes at a centre in the same constituency. A mo-bile court has sentenced two people to one month imprisonment each while casting fake votes in Bariura of Sarail upazila of the same constituency.
A mobile court has sentenced a man to seven days in jail for casting fake votes at Sharifpur Government Primary School centre in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.
